The Wizard News April 21, 2007
Everyone associated with this website would like to send our love & sincerest condolences to the survivors & the families & friends of those killed in this week's massacre at Virginia Tech University. Our hearts & thoughts are with you, as they are with all of those killed & maimed in the senseless violence continually shattering this country, the Middle East & the rest of the world. Whether it happens inside the USA or elsewhere, in times of war or peace, it's still just as senseless. I can honestly say that, for all of the snide comments proclaiming The Wizard as corny &/or dumbed-down, we are all very proud to be associated with a television program which went out of it's way to show that guns, bombs & destroying the lives of the beings around us are not the end-all be-all solutions to our problems. New Website Links I am very pleased to report that Mark Gasper, owner of the Dead Parrot Discs website company, has not only given his permission for us to list a link to his website on our General Links page, but has also expressed a desire to list a link to our site in return. Thank you, Mark!! This link with Dead Parrot Discs is a wonderful addition to our site since David Rappaport loved science fiction & it was such a major component of The Wizard. For all US Dr. Who, science fiction movies & TV, British TV & Anime fans, this website is a wonderful place to shop. Mark is a great guy & Dead Parrot Discs is currently the only US vendor to offer copies of Nabil Shaban's anthology of poetry & graphic art 'Dreams My Father Sold Me'. This book is highly recommended by The MGT. & Cathy King for readers 18 years of age & older. I have been amiss to not mention this before, but my friend Nabil is best known to US audiences as Sil in the Colin Baker Dr. Who episodes 'Vengeance on Varos' & 'Trial of a Timelord - Part 5'. Besides being pretty much the only person able to emit Sil's eerie laugh properly (a fact which irritates both Colin Baker & my dad to no end), Nabil can also vocalize a perfect imitation of a Dalek. His knowledge of Dr. Who, from it's premiere to it's present reincarnation, is very impressive, as well. Nabil can also be seen in the movies 'City of Joy', 'Children of Men', 'Born of Fire', & 'Wittgenstein'. He is an unrelenting equal rights activist whose writing, poetry, art & acting is simply breathtaking. I must also take a moment to thank Mot, owner of The David Rappaport Pages website, for adding this website to her links page. I don't know how long the link has been there, Mot, but you wrote the loveliest description for this website & for me. What a compliment! I'm absolutely speechless, which anyone who has ever gotten an email from me (or has viewed most of the pages of this website) knows is no easy task. I am deeply honored. I hope we get to speak to each other some day. Besides the link on this site to Dead Parrot Discs, there is also now a link to StatCounter.com. Visitor Counter Update Speaking of which, the visitor counter (courtesy of StatCounter.com) is working out very well. We've had 15 visitors as of the uploading of this newsletter. It's been so much fun to be able to check a map & see where in the world our visitors are reaching us from ~ the states of Virginia, Ohio, Wisconsin, Texas, Florida & Oregon in the USA & even a visitor from Columbia, South America. I have been adding an invisible counter to the rest of the pages on this site so that we can also see the pages each visitor views. Don't worry about me suddenly listing IP addresses in here. That's not going to happen. What I would like to do is just say how many visitors we've had since the last newsletter & where in the world they are located, as I've already started above. Since most everyone has spent the last 20+ years assuming that no one remembers the show but them, I think it will be fun to see just how many people are finding the sight. It will be a nice surprise for us all. The best surprise this week has been noticing that all of our visitors either already knew the website address, found us through direct searches or used the link from Mot's site. The Petition List We've got 17, yes we do!!!!! Thank you, Eldric, for adding your name to the Wizard on DVD Petition List!! It's a pleasure to have you on board. Only 1,983 to go & everyone is still welcome & encouraged to add their name. Just email The MGT. & your wish will be my command. By the way, we certainly don't have to stop adding names once the list reaches the 2,000 mark. That is the minimum. There is no maximum. The universe is the limit. We need everyone we can get to let 20th Century Fox know just how important this show is. My sincerest thanks, as always, to everyone who has already signed the petition. The Party We are all still excited about the 21st Anniversary Party in September. I can tell you that I will be there. I don't know if that's considered a plus or a minus, but I'll be there all the same ~ lampshade at the ready just in case the sparkling cider bubbles go to my head. Send me an email if you are interested in attending or have any questions. Why do I receive a reply from a slightly different email address than the one listed below? This is a question I have not been asked directly, but I get the feeling that most everyone who has sent me an email through this website has been wondering. Because the computer I am using is not mine, but has been donated for my use, I don't have direct access to the website email address at the moment. I must forward the emails to a different address, which I tried to make as close as possible to the one below. I do add a note to the beginning of each email &/or subject line to let you know that the reply really is from me, but you may want to keep an eye on your spam/junk mail box just the same. I make it a point to reply to each email so you will hear from me directly as soon as possible.
OK, that's it for now. ROCK ON WIZ KIDZ!!! Jessica Markoff Chaney - The MGT. email: themgt(AT)thewizardtvfansite.com
